Turkish Airlines is launching a new environmental awareness program called Co2assignment August 1, which will aim to balance the emissions caused by all business travel by airline employees and allow customers to fly in a more environmentally conscious way.
Passengers wishing to offset the emissions of their flight can do so by contributing the desired amount to the project portfolio of their choice, thereby purchasing a United Nations-accredited emissions reduction certification through the program website. Many carbon offset options are available, with environmental and community benefits such as renewable energy and forestation.
“We continue to take the lead in addressing climate change, which is at the forefront of global issues today,” said Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines, Professor Ahmet Bolat. “Projects supported by the carbon offset program will also show our sincere commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. I’m sure our passengers will also show great interest in the program, knowing that we are all responsible for this beautiful world we share.”
Information on flight dates as well as arrival and departure stations is sufficient to participate in the carbon offsetting process. Customers can complete their carbon offsetting process whenever they want, regardless of the airline they flew with. With the company THY2mission platform, it is possible to calculate the amount of the carbon offset with the methodology of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which takes into account the length of the route, the type of aircraft, fuel consumption and many other factors. The platform will be accessible through the Turkish Airlines website when purchasing tickets or directly through the Co2mission website: http://turkishairlines.co2mission.com/.
