Traveling over the Thanksgiving holiday? You have options

LEXINGTON, Ky. (October 19, 2022) — Let’s talk turkey. If you’re planning to get home or anywhere else over the Thanksgiving holiday, you have at least two good options for getting from campus to where you want to go: BreakShuttle and the free regional airport shuttles.

University of Kentucky Transportation Services is again offering both travel options to students this academic year. choose the one that suits you best.


BreakShuttle is a charter bus service that allows students, staff, and faculty to take a bus from campus to their hometown and other destinations during major school vacations. The company contracts with UK Transportation Services to provide this service, providing transport for students who prefer not to fly or need a comfortable last-minute return.

Tickets are now on sale for Thanksgiving Break on the following routes:

From the UK to Atlanta, with stops at:

  • Knoxville, TN;
  • Chattanooga, TN; and
  • Kennesaw, Georgia.

From the UK to Chicago, with stops at:

  • Indianapolis, Indiana;
  • Merrillville, Indiana; and
  • Naperville, Ill.

From the UK to Medina, Ohio, with stops at:

  • Dayton, Ohio, and
  • Columbus, Ohio.

Buses must depart from Kroger Field 4 p.m. Tuesday, November 22. The boarding area is in the Kroger Field Green Lot, between gates two and three.

BreakShuttle buses will return to campus after the Thanksgiving break on Sunday, November 27.

Free regional airport shuttles

Students planning to travel by air this Thanksgiving can take advantage of free regional airport shuttles, offered by UK Transportation Services, with financial assistance from the Student Transportation Council.

Complimentary transportation to and from Blue Grass Airport (LEX), Louisville International Airport (SDF), and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) is available for students and staff, simply by registering. Shuttles depart and return to Kroger Field.

Registrations are now open for Thanksgiving Break. Airport shuttles are scheduled to depart at 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23, from gate six at Kroger Field, and return at noon and 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 27.
