A PLANE traveling from the UK to Turkey had to be diverted after a woman ‘slapped other passengers’ during the flight.
The Jet2 flight to Antalya, Turkey, left Manchester Airport around 9.15am on Monday morning.
He was due to arrive almost four and a half hours later but plans abruptly changed when a disruptive female passenger let loose.
Following the incident, the flight had to land in Vienna almost two and a half hours after the start of the trip at around 11:40 a.m.
He then left for Antalya at 1 p.m., before arriving shortly after 3 p.m.
A passenger on the plane, who wished to remain anonymous, said a female passenger became disruptive “about an hour and 20 minutes” into the flight.
They said: “There was a lot of noise. Then she came to the front of the plane.
“She was really mad at the Jet2 staff and didn’t want to calm down. Her voice was getting louder and more aggressive – she was screaming in people’s faces.
“People were saying she was taking off at the airport before she even got on the plane. Then some people said it was because of the babies crying on the flight.
“A customer said something and she slapped her. Then a man got up to try and calm the situation down before taking her to the back of the plane.
The passenger claimed that the staff then made the decision to divert the flight to Vienna.
When the plane landed, the woman allegedly slapped another passenger as she left the airline.
“This is the first time we have had to land because of someone on a flight,” the passenger added.
“The Jet2 staff handled the whole situation very well. No one could help the out of control woman once she slapped the passenger.
The airline sent a text message to passengers on board the flight just before noon, apologizing for the incident.
The message read: “Hello, we are sorry that due to the disruptive behavior of another passenger, your flight has been diverted to Vienna.
“We are working on a situation to get you on your way as soon as possible.”
The flight operator also confirmed that the flight continued successfully to Antalya after the passenger disembarked.
After the incident, a Jet2 spokesperson said: ‘We can confirm that flight LS895 from Manchester to Antalya was diverted to Vienna earlier today so that a disruptive passenger could be offloaded.
“As a family-friendly airline, we take a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive behavior.”
Manchester Airport declined to comment on the situation, saying it was up to the airline to comment.
