North Wales travel agency is looking for recruits with the opportunity to visit dream destinations

The chance to “road test” a dream vacation will be a perk of working one-on-one. North WalesNew York-based tour operator that launched a search for 44 new apprentices.

With business booming, Hays Travel North West, which has outlets across North Wales and the North West, will hold local open days in Liverpool, Manchester and Wrexham for young people interested in working in the holiday industry.

Hays, which has 44 stores including in Flint, Mold and Connah’s Quay, is seeing a surge in bookings in March as pandemic travel restrictions ease, with holiday bookings up 10% on figures from the same month in 2019 – the last pre-Covid month.

Simone Murphy, Regional Sales Manager, a former Hays apprentice, said: “We are seeing a real boom in holiday bookings as the world opens up again and we expect that to continue throughout the year and in the future.

“That’s why we’ve decided to change the way we recruit apprentices, starting earlier than usual to reach more candidates and to ensure we’re giving the opportunity to people who are passionate about a career in travel.

“We want to give them the chance to come and meet us, learn more about what we do and see if a career in travel and tourism is right for them.

“We offer our new recruits a comprehensive training program with a nationally recognized qualification at the end to help them make the most of this opportunity to work in this exciting industry – it has all helped me and many others, to succeed at Hays. ”

The closing date is April 11, after which all applicants will have a telephone interview and successful applicants will be invited to attend open days in April and May in Liverpool, Manchester and Wrexham.

The Open Days will be an opportunity to meet Hays Travel staff and learn more about the travel industry and the opportunities it offers, after which successful applicants will be invited for an interview with the Head of branch they applied for with a project start date in July.

Their in-house training will lead to a nationally recognized qualification, Level Two/Three NVQ in Travel & Tourism and the opportunity to seed the world themselves.

Simone began her career with Hays Travel aged 16 straight from school in 2005 at the company’s Bebington branch and progressed to assistant manager at a new branch in Connah’s Quay and then to managerial positions at Mold and Wrexham before being appointed Regional Sales Manager.

Her first educational trip with Hays was a year into her apprenticeship and since then she has traveled to many destinations including Mexico and South Africa’s Garden Route and won numerous awards .

Another success story is that of Dion Hanmer, from Wrexham, who started as an apprentice five years ago and now runs one of the company’s largest stores in his home town.

The former Apprentice of the Year has traveled to Tenerife, Lanzarote, Mallorca, Almeria and Iceland and she said: “I trained for two years, which allowed me to win and learning while doing a job that I love.

“Hays Travel is like a big family and it’s such a rewarding job. I love helping customers and seeing them happy makes me happy.

“I’m so glad I pushed myself because I never imagined myself being where I am now”

Hays Travel North West, which is fully registered with ABTA and ATOL, was established by Don Bircham in the town center of Mold, Flintshire in 2000 and has since grown rapidly to through North Walesthe North West and the West Midlands.
