After two years, Laos has finally reopened its borders after imposing strict restrictions to prevent and combat the spread of Covid-19. On May 7, the country not only announced its reopening, but also eased restrictions. Vaccinated travelers and citizens can now enter the country without any testing requirements.

According to ABC Newsthe decision to reopen the country was based on the drop in the number of Covid-19 cases in Laos, with an average number of new infections reported from nearly 2,000 in February 2022 to less than 200 in March 2022.

At the time of writing, fully vaccinated travelers must provide a vaccination certificate to enter without quarantine without any pre-departure or arrival screening or Covid-19 testing. However, unvaccinated travelers or residents aged 12 and over must take a rapid antigen test 48 hours before departure.

For Malaysians, no visa is required. You can enter without a visa and stay in Lao PDR for 30 days. To extend your stay with ease, apply for an eVisa and visit the immigration office after 30 days without having to leave the country.
