Here are some events to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) — Thanksgiving is just over a week away, and here’s everything you need to know about the holiday.

Thanksgiving travel is expected to be slightly lower than pre-pandemic levels nationwide. But AAA expects more than 1.6 million Georgians to walk 50 miles or more for Thanksgiving. Despite high gas prices, 89% of all Thanksgiving travelers will be driving.

KIDS EVENTS

Thanksgiving Holiday Mini-Camp – Nov 21-22, 10am-2pm, Wine and Design, Augusta

  • During the camp, we will spend days discovering and creating all things fall. Children should bring a snack, lunch and a bottle of water. Turkey contest – D. brown foundation inc. Thursday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Give Thanks Family Paint Night – November 23, 3-5 p.m., Wine$Design, Augusta

  • Is the family in town for Thanksgiving? Looking for something anyone can do? W&D Augusta has you covered. Get the family out of the house and come paint.

Thanksgiving Movie Afternoon for Kids – November 23, 4-5:30 p.m., Nancy Carson Library

  • Stop by to see some fun holiday shorts before the festivities begin. Bring your refreshments. Short films to show: A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, Garfield’s Thanksgiving, A Charlie Brown Christmas and Garfield’s Christmas.

Thanksgiving Community Food Drive – November 7-19, Davis Appliance and Furniture

  • 3rd Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, collecting food to match with turkey donations for over 70 families.

National Hunger Food Drive – Nov. 16-Nov. 24, Aiken County School District

  • The Aiken County School District is hosting a National Hunger Awareness Week food drive this week. He is collecting canned and dry goods this week that will be placed in blessing boxes across the county next week for Thanksgiving.

The feast before the feast – November 17, 5-8 p.m., Carrie Mays Community Center

  • The Braswell-Manigault Foundation and Augusta Parks & Recreation invite the community to celebrate Thanksgiving with us.

Annual Thanksgiving Campaign – Nov. 17, 5 p.m., Burke County Sheriff’s Department

  • Officials say that due to rising costs in Turkey, they will not provide it this year. You can select either ham or chicken this year. You must have your driver’s license and only one meal will be available per vehicle.

Turkey in a Box – Nov. 19, 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., Wagener Fire Department

  • Aiken Electric Cooperative support, the food distribution initiative in Wagener, SC, presented by Area Churches Together Serving.

Vacation in the Park – Nov. 19-Jan. 1, Six Flags over Georgia

  • This year, the park’s flagship winter event features all-new experiences, like the Six Flags Holiday Market, magical new shows, and the return of attractions, shows, guest favorites and more.

Thanksgiving Meal – November 20, 5-6 p.m., Augusta Dream Center

  • Augusta Dream Center will provide a free takeout turkey and ingredients for your own Thanksgiving dinner. Although the giveaway is first come, first served, you can also join us as we sit down as a community and share a meal immediately after the giveaway.

Thanksgiving Week Buffet – November 20-26, 2195 Augusta Road.

  • Help Walking Tall Ministries serve a full buffet every day of Thanksgiving week by placing your donated meal of any type in a 9×13 dish if possible. Accompaniments, starters and desserts are essential, everyone is invited to come and eat every day, even on public holidays at 9am sharp.

Friendsgiving Party – November 23, 4-10:45 p.m., Top Dawg Tavern

Thanksgiving Dinner – November 24, 3-11pm, Atomic City Cafe, New Ellenton

  • 2nd Annual Dinner for everyone who has nowhere to go for Thanksgiving, everyone who doesn’t have family. Then there will be a clothing drive for people in need. The remains are transported to the retirement homes of the region.

Celebrate Thanksgiving – November 24, 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., Crowne Plaza North Augusta

  • Salt + Marrow Kitchen, located at Crowne Plaza North Augusta, takes the stress out of the holidays this year with an unforgettable Thanksgiving feast! Join us for a family-style 3-course prix-fixe.

Thanksgiving Potluck – November 24, 6-9 p.m., Capri Lounge

  • Capri Lounge is excited to bring back our annual Thanksgiving Day Potluck for 2022. We cordially invite all members of the community to bring a dish.
